Combat Veterans, I am creating a community for us to share our stories, get vets together, and ultimately reduce the suicide rate, and I would like your advice and input.
Every time I get together with other combat vets I laugh harder than I do with anyone else. Not only do we share a similar sense of dark humor, we share experiences that no one else can understand. It is these experiences that bond us forever and give us a sense of closeness that is rare to have with anyone outside of the military.
I am going to create a blog/community called irreverentwarriors.com
Irreverent means unable to take serious things seriously. This sums up my personality, and the personalities of almost every friend I've had since I was 12 years old.
On this blog all warriors will have the chance to tell their funny war stories. There will be nothing appropriate on the site, and it will have a lot of humor that is missed by civilians. That's OK, because everything about this will be BY veterans, FOR veterans.
This forum will give guys a chance to tell their stories and share a laugh. It will bring guys together, make them feel included and welcome, and will hopefully, if all goes well, will prevent guys from killing themselves. Sometimes a man in a dark place needs to feel close to someone, if this community does what it's supposed to, we will all feel that closeness, even when we're miles apart.
The site will include a podcast where I will sit down with combat vets from all branches to hear their stories, and of course a youtube channel.
Irreverant Warriors will become a book series where I can publish other guy's stories, and everything will be followed up with resources for veterans to stay healthy, employed, and alive.
What I need from you all is:
Ways to improve on this idea.
Things you'd like to see on this blog.
Ideas for a logo
Websites that already exist that you think are good to model this one after.
Let's begin the discussion.
